It's a little noisy here

I am stoked to have joined Scoopler, so after months of staring at realtime results, I'm proud to blog my first thoughts on the world of realtime search...

Recent positive feedback and honest smackdown of a large, multi-colored competitor has spurred me to comment on the state of realtime search and reaffirm the visionary position of Scoopler.

Let's be blunt, most of the live information being posted through twitter, digg, justin.tv or elsewhere isn't relevant to you. If you were to stand in front of the jet-engine equivalent of the real-time web, not only would the noise be deafening, you couldn't hear anyone telling you good information like "it's probably not safe to stand in front a jet engine." What's beautiful about the breeze though (to force the analogy) is that there really are people speaking those good tidbits of information amongst all the noise; signals that we can hear if filtered smartly. And that's the lofty goal of real-time search engines: be the noise-cancelling headsets of the real-time web.

noisy

So what does it take? A lot of attempts seem to take an algorithm based on tweet count and then display the results like a standard search engine. That's great, but real-time search isn't used the same way as static search. Realtime information is constantly shifting to the next important development. Think Tiger Woods accident, to attack, to scandal. How fast did that happen again? I still have whiplash from the car crash. Real-time search isn't just about the algorithm, it's also about the delivery. It's the difference between the cheapo earphones and the best noise isolating headphones (yeah, they're better than bose).

For any developing search topic, Scoopler delivers the complete picture based on our three principals: filter, live-update, and live-feed.  Scoopler Popular shares has the filtered, noise-cancelled goodness you'd expect.  Popular shares also updates live right when something changes (something we're working on making more obvious). Finally, the Live Posts column allows you to see the next bit of info right when it's first share.  Take all three together and you get the full picture.

So open Scoopler, search for your flavor of the moment and tune in with high-fidelity to the real-time web.
